Beltway 8 Pedestrian Enhancements: Memorial Drive to Briar Hill Drive

A Transportation Alternatives Program Project

Project Information
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has partnered with the City of Houston Public Works and Engineering, Houston Bikeways Program, TIRZ 17, Memorial Management District, and other stakeholders to develop a project to improve the connection from the neighborhood to Terry Hershey Park (Briar Hill Drive) and activity centers north of Memorial Drive. Beltway 8 northbound frontage road is a major roadway and as population and commercial activity continue to grow in the area, it has become necessary to provide better connectivity options to neighborhoods along this corridor to access nearby activity centers and parks. Currently, a 4’ sidewalk exists along the northbound Beltway 8 frontage road. TxDOT is proposing to widen the sidewalk to 8’ with a minimum 6' sidewalk in locations where the right-of-way is constrained.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform the community stakeholders and gather input on the planning and design of a proposed widened pedestrian path.
