Houston Bike Counts

The City of Houston partners with the Houston Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) to count bicycle in and around the greater Houston area.    Currently, there are four permanent counters located within the City of Houston along the Columbia Tap Trail, Brays Bayou Trail and the White Oak Trail.   These counters use a combination of sensors to count the number of pedestrians and cyclists using the facility and determine which direction they are traveling.   Counts are tracked monthly and the 2016 Full Year Report may be viewed for each counter location.    To learn more, please visit: http://www.h-gac.com/community/qualityplaces/pedbike/pedestrian-bicyclist-counters.aspx.

Temporary counters have been deployed in more than 250 locations.   Temporary count request may be emailed to bikeways@houstontx.gov for consideration with the following information:

  • Count request location.  Examples include an intersection, trail head, X/Y coordinate, aerial image of site location, etc.
  •  Reason for request.
