Bike Detour Houston Avenue

Bike Trail Detour and Houston Avenue Lane Closure During I-45 Construction - May, 2016 through Summer 2017

Update: 11/2017
TxDOT construction of the I-45 northbound bridge at White Oak is complete.   The provided detour is intended to be temporary and an alternative route for trail users should the trail be closed as a result of said construction.  Given TxDOT project completion, the associated bike detour is to be removed from Houston Avenue effective immediately.

Update: 8/2016
Houston Avenue, from Spring Street to White Oak Drive, will be temporarily reconfigured to accommodate a pedestrian and bicycle detour for all Heights and White Oak Bayou Bike Trail traffic during TxDOT construction. The I-45 northbound bridge at White Oak Bayou is to be reconstructed, as well as a new connector bridge, bridge deck and other miscellaneous work on I-45 from Memorial Drive to I-10.  For more information, please visit TxDOT Houston Avenue Detour Announcement

The detour consist of a two-way, separated bicycle facility along Houston Avenue’s west-most southbound traffic lane, and is anticipated to be implemented as soon as Saturday, October 22, 2016.  The intent of this TxDOT detour is to provide a trail-like connection between the Heights and White Oak Bike trail which will be closed and reopened intermittently during TxDOT construction.
